Can you imagine how much dairy farmers would love to be able to sell their own raw milk to the public. The current system where milk travels for hundreds of kms before being processed in the factory - and them more than likely sent back to where it came from (as a far inferior product) is just crazy!!??Triciahttp://www.littleecofootprints.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9027191706980748713.post-36966733735743307032012-07-12T06:48:32.312+10:002012-07-12T06:48:32.312+10:00Hi Liz,

We have about the same amount of land and believe very much in ethical farming. So great to see that other people are thinking along the same lines .
We are milking a goat at the moment and just love the raw milk .
http://thelittleblackcowblog.blogspot.comKimhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09958193502828236814noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9027191706980748713.post-68137032096705638332012-01-31T11:56:48.768+10:002012-01-31T11:56:48.768+10:00I'm completely with you on this one. These laws and regulations do not exist for our safety.

If the government was concerned about health and safety instead of money, it wouldn't be legal to buy tobacco. The fact that tobacco is so regulated (instead of allowing people to grow it and sell it to each other) shows that it's only about money, and the government getting their duties (i.e. revenue).

Try selling eggs from your own chickens, or meat (chickens, rabbits) you've produced on your own farm and you'll see a whole lot more legislation and regulation!Darren (Green Change)http://www.green-change.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9027191706980748713.post-66722086786143975362011-08-09T10:16:28.832+10:002011-08-09T10:16:28.832+10:00Hey Liz, I did it!

It isn't particularly simple to get raw milk in New Zealand either, but I don't know of any dawn raids either!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9027191706980748713.post-22123147967343832332011-08-01T10:48:38.742+10:002011-08-01T10:48:38.742+10:00Oh you are singing my song! I feel a rant coming on so excuse me in advance.
I live in Kilcoy and during the floods at the start of the year a local dairy farm was suppling milk to residents stranded accross a swollen river with no bridge but a flying fox for basic supplies, suppling locals who could not get to town for a week where there was no milk anyway and on top of all of this the tanker could not get through to collect the milk anyway.
And what did the factory do...
They threatened to cancel their contract with the farm unless the farmer went back to tipping the milk (yes all the thousands of litres)down the drain (into the padocks).
Have you ever heard anything more crazy?
Ok will stop ranting now.
PS Thanks for dropping by and leaving a comment.Fiona from Arbordale Farmhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05196630415124998431noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9027191706980748713.post-52357214909289995232011-08-01T10:48:33.455+10:002011-08-01T10:48:33.455+10:00Such a well-written post. Cream and butter when we wanted it and made the butter and lovely fresh tasting milk. You're right about the regulations - they were set in place in a time when there were genuine health risks - now we are so much more educated. Although I think also that some of the regulations (apart from they help the dairy companies)are designed to stop those who would sue about anything coming up with claims when they should have taken more care. Thanks for the link too. That's my morning tea viewing....vbg. PS I don't think you were rambling either. It made perfect sense to me and I think you laid out the whole raw milk v other milk brilliantly.Calidorehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07118238727781108509noreply@blogger.com
