You probably haven't seen this blog pop up in your feed for a while.
I've had this blog since 2010, its seen me move from our 8 acre property to 258 acres, start new gardens, hatch multiple chickens, plant pasture, buy and sell cattle and love various dogs. I remember when I had to take all the photos on a digital camera, edit them and upload them, now they are all on my phone. I started making soap around 2015 as a hobby, which gradually grew into selling on Etsy and at markets.
In 2017, I moved everything over to a Shopify site, all 800+ blog posts and my dream of making and selling soap. And it has been a lot of fun, mildly successful, but lately its felt more like a jobby than a hobby. I miss spending my weekends experimenting with what I can make and grow. Lately when a large soap order came in, rather than being excited, I would dread the time I needed to spend to make it.
I realised that it was time to stop selling soap, and go back to the things that I enjoyed, so I'm packing up the Shopify site, moving the blog posts back here to Blogger. And my eBooks (on house cows, chicken tractors, natural soap and veggie gardening) will be available on Payhip instead.
Since 2017, we've planted a food forest, which has grown HUGE! We've started raised garden beds, using our solar bore pump for water. We've had various different cattle and chickens. Put solar panels on the shed roof. Planted perennial pasture. And generally continued to live a simple live and apply permaculture principles.
I will keep moving posts over, which will fill in some of the gaps, and eventually move this blog to the Shopify store URL eight-acres.com.au.
I will try to get back to more regular blog posts when I do something interesting. It feels good to be back here. I'll leave you with a few photos.
