Local pure peanut butter

I've always loved eating peanut butter sandwiches.  I remember that when I was a child, the first time you opened a jar of peanut butter you always had to stir the oil back in, but you don't have to do that any more.  Ever wondered why?  Have a look at the ingredients, there's not just peanuts in that jar (unless you are a fanatical label reader like me and know what to avoid), usually vegetable oil and stabilisers are added to keep the oil in the peanut butter.  Well I'd rather not eat random vegetable oil and stabilisers, so I try to find real peanut butter.  Lucky for me I live in the peanut capital of Australia!



The South Burnett produces about 12000 t of peanuts annually, that is the majority of peanuts in Queensland, and Queensland produces 90% of the peanuts in Australia.  That means I can buy freshly made pure peanut butter for my sandwiches :)  You can usually get fresh peanut paste from health food stores as well.

    I love the peanut van peanuts and that is one thing I miss about the area. I even ordered them to be delivered to have a Christmas and now I learn that they peanut butter. I will have to find that as the only peanut butter here is made from imported peanuts.

    Oh yes, the stabilizers and emulsifiers in fake peanut butter. ICK! Natural peanut butter just tastes better too! Are you able to get sprouted peanut butter there? How about raw peanuts? I can't find it here unless I pay a small fortune. One of these days, I will try to make my own, but I am having a hard time finding raw peanuts.

    As a kid I actually hated peanut butter... isn't that bizarre? As an adult, I have seen the error of my childhood ways... especially when being smeared on my dark chocolate! Thanks for linking up to Freaky Friday!

Farm update - August 2017

Its been cold this month, and very nice to have the fire going every night.  Here's a photo of my boy in his cape, great for late night woofing at things.  Most of July we were either preparing for the butcher to come or putting meat away.  Its always a big job, but its only once a year, and its all done now.  My lovely neighbour came over to help, so it was fun to have the company and work together.  Taz was a champion once again as she helped us to move cattle in the yards ready to load for the market.  Gus is not at that level yet and had to stay home (he cries when he gets left behind, but he just gets in the way and scatters the cattle).  We have had a few sprinkles of rain here and there, but also plenty of cold nights, so the grass is mostly dead and dry, waiting for the warmer weather to revive our summer-active pasture. Neem oil for insect control
